In the early part of the twenty-first century Coca Cola had an epiphany. It realized that is was a water company that provided added value by creating beverages for global consumption. Without water, there would be no Coca Cola. By 2007 the company had set a goal to replenish water stocks as they are used.

Fast forward to today, the company now returns the equivalent of about 115% of the water it uses in all of its operations to the communities in which it operates and nature. In doing so, the company has improved the quality of life for people and environment as they pass along the value of water stewardship and conservation.

The funny thing about sustainability is that once a company embarks on the journey, new horizons and opportunities open up. Coca Cola is the first Fortune 500 Company to achieve such a momentous goal. You may ask, “Why restore over 100%?” The truth is, human have been using water without regard to restoration of water stocks since the beginning of time. There is still much more to do.
