Why Join Expressworks?

IF YOU’RE CONSIDERING EXPRESSWORKS, you’ve been around the block in the management consulting field – maybe around the world. You’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. You love the work you do, but you may not love everything that goes with it. We get it. We’ve been there.

Fortunately, we’ve found a better way. Expressworks is a consulting network unlike any other. We offer consultants the best of both worlds: more of the stuff you love, less of the stuff you don’t, and the ability to choose your own path.

So what does that mean? At the risk of sounding simplistic, we’ve condensed it down to ‘The Three Cs’. We didn’t really plan it that way; it just sort of happened, and then we couldn’t just ignore it. So here they are.

The 3 C’s: Culture, Choice, and Connection

Culture

Expressworks has a distinct culture. We live and work by an inspiring set of Values and Operating Principles, and we take them to heart. These guideposts don’t just drive the way we do business – they are the foundation for the way we treat our clients, each other, and ourselves. They give us a framework to work within and the freedom to get creative when it comes to making our clients successful. They are part of a philosophy that tends to create a specific culture, and that culture tends to attract a certain type of person.

Choice

Expressworks encourages personal freedom and choice. A big driver of career dissatisfaction is feeling forced to work on something you’re not crazy about. With Expressworks, what you pursue is up to you. Travel or stay local. Work on a team or on your own. Work part time or full time. We don’t judge. Whatever your project preferences, we’ll work with you to find an assignment that fits. We often have a variety of opportunities to choose from. And you’re encouraged – but never required – to seek out new work, new industries, and new clients that interest you. We believe that when you pursue opportunities that match with your skills and interests, we all succeed. You’re not required to work exclusively with Expressworks, but when you need the support of an experienced network, we’ve got your back. You’re also not required to sell work – but there are generous incentives for helping bring meaningful work to the company. At Expressworks, we’re continuously evolving and even starting new consulting practices within our business, so there are always opportunities to grow beyond what you already know.

Connection

Expressworks offers connection with a diverse network of competent consultants – some of the best in the business. As a member of our network, you’ll have access to an experienced roster of professionals to team up with, talk shop with, or whose expertise you may draw on when you need to round out a project team. We value and encourage the cross-pollination of styles and ideas across our network. We aim for an environment where everyone on the team gets to bring their “A-game” to create the ideal solution for a specific challenge.

You’ve also got great back office support for client billing and expenses, so you can focus on supporting your client and delivering results. And you have access to proven consulting tools and methodologies to add to what you already know and use.

We’ve done away with low value activity that takes up an inordinate amount of time in a typical consulting firm. Instead of the usual annual review process (often given by people you hardly interact with), you receive timely feedback when you want and need it.  Our flat organization design keeps office paperwork – and office politics – to a minimum.

And last but not least, we have a great group of people (if we do say so ourselves).  There are no forced interactions, but there is a definite social aspect to our network.  We’re serious about our work, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.  When we get together it feels more like a reunion than a business meeting. As an Expressworks consultant, you’ll have the option to be a part of that.

So that’s it.  Culture, choice, and connection with competent consultants.  Choose Expressworks and choose your own path.

Talk to Expressworks today to find out if our network is a good fit for you.

If you are qualified and would like to apply for any of these positions,  please send your resume to careers@expressworks.com.

“One of Expressworks values is “do what you love to do”. The company lives that because every time I get contacted about an upcoming project, it’s never, “Here’s a project you need to take.” It’s always, “Here’s a project. Would you be interested in it?” They truly want to make sure that they’re aligning the talent with what the client needs, not staffing just anyone on a project to get it sold. It’s never about selling the project. It’s about putting the right resource on the project to succeed.”

– John Lyden

“The kind of latitude that we get allows us to go after work that inspires us, and when people go after work that inspires them, they don’t just show up. We bring creative, new, forward thinking to our clients, and that’s why they engage us. I hope that they engage us because we’re different than the rest. I hope they engage us because they expect more. I hope they engage us because they really want change that’s going to work, and that’s going to be sustained. I think that’s what we can bring because of the passion that we have for our work.”

–  Nicole Vamvakias

“One of our operating principles is that we make friends out of our business, not business out of our friends.  That’s truly something that I’ve found. I’ve been at Expressworks for almost a decade; I never thought I would stay this long. This is like a family now. This is a place where I’ve made life-long friendships with people who are very near and dear to me. I think that really speaks to our network, that we have so many people in the network that you can connect with on such a meaningful level that transcends just work.”

– Vivian Li

“What keeps me at Expressworks is the environment where there is choice. It’s an organization that is very respectful of who you are and who you want to be and what you want to do and is not highly structured. You know when you’ve got great people, great things are going to happen. Motivated, caring people get things done. I’ve been in organizations where people care, but all they do is talk about what they care about and don’t do what’s necessary to actually help the organization or their clients make progress. I really value my colleagues in Expressworks because they’re motivated to go get things done and find ways to get things done. If our clients are not ready to do something a certain way, or there’s some issue or concern or the organization’s struggling, we find a way to help make progress.”

– Rick Walters
